Lauren is a Somatic Psychotherapist, with over 15 years in the field. She returned to the Twin Cities before the Pandemic after her studies in at Naropa University in Colorado, where she received in depth clinical training in Somatic Psychotherapy (MA) and Contemplative Buddhist Psychotherapy with a Somatic focus (BA) from Naropa University. Throughout her life and career before, during and after these degrees; Lauren has worked as a psychotherapist, crisis worker and case manager for adults, elders and teens, and individuals with a large variation of physical and mental presentations.
Lauren has a passion for working with marginalized communities, particularly folks from the Fat, Disability and LGBTTQIA2S+ communities. As a Citizen Therapist she endeavors to ensure her practice is open and welcoming to all, with a firmly anti-racist and nonjudgmental stance. To this end she is a HAES (Health at Every Size) practitioner and continuously seeks additional trainings in ethnicity, race, culture, sex, gender and sexuality. She is passionate about rooting out the Kyiarchal interjects in the collective experience of our lives - racism, sexism, ableism, sizeism, classism, individualism etc, internalized or otherwise. Lauren is also familiar with working with a variety of relationship styles, including ethical non-monogamy. Above all she prides herself in creating a safe, supportive, dynamic and playful environment for clients from all backgrounds and experiences and is continually working to better provide mental health services for those most often overlooked and in need.
Somatic Psychotherapy, Lauren’s primary modality is based on the understanding that Trauma lives in the body. We work with the body in the room and in the moment. Movement, mindfulness and experimentation are common. Co-movement, work and the use of ethical touch with express consent are possible. Having two degrees in Somatic Psychotherapy, Lauren has extensive training in working with Trauma and its interplay within our neurology, the body and psyche. She has worked much with folks experiencing high acuity or severe and persistent mental illnesses. In her work beyond the Somatic, she has experience with elders, individuals with physical and neurological disabilities as well as trainings in crisis, Gestalt, Internal Family Systems, Sensorimotor Psychotherapy, Solution Focused Brief Therapy, Meditation and Mindfulness, Focusing, Hakomi, CBT/DBT and MI.
